CpaaS.io: City Platform as a Service Integrated and Open

OdinS participates in the H2020 project, known as CpaaS.io, between Europe and Japan, which aims to develop an open platform based on the cloud that can set the basis for a smart city data infrastructure. The platform will make possible to connect technologies such as Internet of the Things, Cloud Computing and Big Data. It will allow cities and private companies to offer new applications and utilities for individuals and businesses.

The platform – enabled by or on behalf of a city – establish the bases for a digitized virtual society becoming the city more attractive to its citizens and new companies and also helping in increasing the effectiveness and improving its own processes and public utilities.

Stephan Haller, European coordinator of the University of Applied Sciences in Bern, presented the advantages of this platform: “It contributes strongly to an urban innovation and reinforces the attractiveness and competitiveness of the city. By providing open and secure data, it possibly brings other businesses. And also the platform may help the citizen in managing the data control and setting who is allowed to use what data and how. ”

The practical effectiveness will be tested in cities that already have experience with open and secure data. In Europe located in Amsterdam, Murcia and Zurich, in Japan, Sapporo, Tokyo and Yokosuka are the designated cities.

The European partners embarked on two and a half years project are AGT, NEC, Odin Solutions, The Things Network and the University of Surrey. Japanese partners involved are the followings: ACCESS Co., Microsoft Japan, Ubiquitous Computing Technology Corporation and the University of Tokyo. The CPaaS.io project is funded by the European Commission (grant agreement n ° 723076) and Japan’s NICT (management number 18302).
